Mars rover 'Opportunity' panorama

A 360 degree panorama of the eerie false-colour landscape assembled from 817 images taken by the Mars rover 'Opportunity' between Dec. 21, 2011, and May 8, 2012. According to the NASA website: the photo shows the terrain that surrounded the rover while it was stationary for four months of work during its most recent Martian winter. The release of this image (July 2012) coincides with Opportunity completing its 3,000th Martian day on July 2, and NASA continuing past 15 years of robotic presence at Mars. Aerial Slices: Islands and Ocean

maldives North and South Malosmadulu Atolls are in the Maldives, an island republic in the northern Indian Ocean, southwest of India. The Maldives are made up of a chain of 1,192 small coral islands, which are grouped into clusters of atolls. It has a total area of 298 square kilometers and a population of about 330,000 - NASA Earth Observatory
