Bouba et Sokona Sacko

Screenshots from a video from the early 1990s by Malian guitar/ngoni legend Bouba Sacko. Although there is a better quality video of the same recording, I prefer this version with its acrid, flat blocks of saturated colours and unpredictable hues due to harsh studio lighting. I discovered this song (and it has since been on repeat all morning) after reading about Bouba on World Service. Lemon yellows, Cornflower blues (which shimmer into electric blues and white simultaneously) and vivid reds/pinks on the back-up singers. I like the way each of the band members smile so earnestly whenever they realise a camera is doing a close-up on them. Find myself equally enthralled and mesmerized by the combination of this track and its video.

Mars rover 'Opportunity' panorama

A 360 degree panorama of the eerie false-colour landscape assembled from 817 images taken by the Mars rover 'Opportunity' between Dec. 21, 2011, and May 8, 2012. According to the NASA website: the photo shows the terrain that surrounded the rover while it was stationary for four months of work during its most recent Martian winter. The release of this image (July 2012) coincides with Opportunity completing its 3,000th Martian day on July 2, and NASA continuing past 15 years of robotic presence at Mars.

Kylie Minogue 'Slow'

Directed by Baillie Walsh in 2003 this music video was shot over a three-day period in Barcelona, at the Piscina Municipal de Montjuïc the beautiful pools which hosted the diving events at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. One of my many all-time favourite music videos. (Apologies for lackluster stills)
